Christmas Countdown Competition

Posted on November 13, 2014 at 1:15 PM Comments comments (0)

I think it is nice to end the year with a competition, so here is a small one that is easy to enter and is open to all.  All you have to do is submit a photo of your project, which can be anything you like but on the theme of Christmas. So you can choose a card, a chipboard project, a scrapbook or any other paper craft. The competition will be open until the end of the year, so you have heaps of time!

Prize - choose from either:

  • $15 voucher to spend on any items on the site
  • A lucky dip prize item shipped to your address

Depending on the number of entries we have, there will be five prize packs up for grabs.

How to enter:

You can submit your photo in a few different ways:

  • upload a photo of your project to the Members Wall of Fame. Sign into the site as normal and then go to the Photo Album and click the 'Add Photo' button. Follow the very simple instructions. Mark your photo Christmas Countdown.

  • add a link to your project in the comments at the bottom of this post or on our Facebook fan page - this is the easiest way if you have your project on another blog or site.
  • send your photo to us by email to [email protected]'

Your lucky dip prize will be chosen from a range of papercraft items, which may include stamps, embossing folders, papercraft embellishments, die cuts to name a few. The value of this prize will be approximately $10 after taking into account shipping costs to your location.

November/December Challenge - 'Christmas' but not as we know it!

Posted on November 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM Comments comments (2)

I can't believe that the year is almost over and here we are again facing another Christmas period and another challenge!

Please consider taking part in the Challenge this time, even if you haven't done so before. Don't be shy! We really need more entries to make the competition fun for everyone and it is so easy to enter your project!

Just like the last challenge, we are going to roll the November and December challenges into one. The finish date will be at the start of December, as the site will be 'closed' from 13th December until mid-January, so you will need to get going on your entries if you are going to take part!

The theme is going to be....wait for it.....'Christmas'....no surprises there.

However, I want you try thinking outside the box a bit with your entries... if you can. Try to think of it as a 'show-piece' or 'demo project' that will perhaps show-case a particular card-making technique or skill that you have used.

You might for instance try a technique you haven't tried before (and note this on your entry), try mixing media that you wouldn't normally use together, or try a colour-scheme which is not traditional, like black and pink or black and blue.

Of course, it is up to you, so you can enter anything you like, so no pressure!

The normal rules and conditions apply:

  • You can use any materials you like to make your cards..it doesn't have to be a card, it can be any papercraft, scrapbook or chipboard project.
  • You can enter up to five items - if you post more than one entry, the scores will be averaged to give a final score.
  • Each project entered will be judged against 5 different criteria, each out of 20, giving a total score out of 100.

The five judging criteria are:

  • How well it meets the topic of the challenge
  • The use of colour
  • Design and Composition
  • Techniques and Complexity
  • Originality

In the event of a tie, the prize voucher will be split between the winners. The top prize is normally a $10 download voucher to spend on the site but for this  challenge, you can choose a mystery prize pack instead. The pack will include items choosen from the webstore to the value of $10.

The winner will be announced on the blog and contacted through the member message system or by email.

You can enter by uploading your photo to the Wall of Fame Photo Album (clearly marking your entry as Christmas Challenge), emailing your entry to us, uploading a photo to the forum - under the Competition Entry Thread, or you can add a link in the comments section of the blog.

Please tell your friends about the Challenge and let's get lots of people involved, as this might be the last challenge for a while. We may not run them next year, so it would be good to drum up lots of entries for this one.

Good luck!

October Challenge Results!

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 8:35 PM Comments comments (2)

This month was a challenge for judging. With less entries, things are always a bit tighter but here are the combined scores for the October Challenge and the results were pretty close.

First Place - Carol with 86 points

Second Place - Tresa with 83 points

Third Place - Susie with 79 points

Fourth Place - Krafty with 72 points

  • Carol's card was nicely balanced, with a good use of colour and scored highly on originality.
  • Tresa's card scored very highly on technique and colour, with her card based upon the Itsy Bitsy Witch Digital Image.
  • Susie had three entries, all of which were nicely finished and very cute and she used the free digitals also.
  • Krafty produced a nice clean and simple card, also using the free digitals.

Thank you so much to our entrants to this month's challenge. Please visit the photo gallery 'Wall of Fame' to view this month's entries.

Judging these cards is always a difficult task but we do take time to look at each and every entry carefully. We have considered using a random number generator to choose the winner but this way we can acknowlege all the different skills involved in making a winning card.

Well done to Carol, who wins a $10 download voucher and Tresa, you can choose one free card template download as well!

Only one more day to the end of the challenge!

Posted on October 29, 2011 at 5:45 AM Comments comments (6)

Only a few more hours until the challenge ends and we only have one entry so far!! Where is everybody? We need more entries to have a challenge!

I know Halloween isn't everyone's chosen theme, so why not just go with the colours, orange, black, purple and green instead.

Tell your friends, tell anybody you meet on the street, it doesn't matter. If they have made a project and blogged about it on their blog, then a link to that project will do.

We've posted plenty of Halloween freebies and heaps of people have signed up over the last couple of weeks and told their friends about them (257 members now) so there must be some projects out there using these digitals.

Famous Foxy has cleverly used one of the digitals for her entry which you can see her entry on the Wall of Fame in the Photo Gallery. Thanks Foxy for your entry.

September/October Challenge Details

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 10:55 PM Comments comments (5)

Just a reminder that the monthly challenges for September and October have been rolled into one, ending on 31 October 2011. We have had a few queries about how many entries you can put in, so here are all the details for this challenge.

  • You can use any materials you like to make your cards...oh and it doesn't have to be a card, it can be any papercraft, scrapbook or chipboard project!

  • You can enter up to five items for this challenge - if you post more than one entry, the scores will be averaged to give a final score.
  • Each card entered will be judged against 5 different criteria, each out of 20, giving a total score out of 100 - the five criteria are:
  • How well it meets the topic of the challenge
  • The use of colour
  • Design and Composition
  • Techniques and Complexity
  • Originality
  • There will be two people scoring, so the final mark will be an average of those - in the event of a tie, the prize voucher will be split between the winners.
  • The top prize is a $10 download voucher to spend on the site and there may be other prizes offered depending on the closeness of the final scores.
  • The winner will be announced on the blog and contacted through the member message system or by email.
