My Mum loves her tea and when she is having a 'posh' moment she will use her very special bone china tea cups and saucers. This really does depend on who is visiting of course and I suppose I shouldn't be offended when I only get offered the tatty chipped mugs when I visit.
Anyway, I wanted to make a teacup and saucer card template that allowed me to replicate a very genteel cup of tea for Mother's Day. I know that a 'lady' would never be so sloppy as to have a tea bag hanging out of her cup but I felt that this did fall into the realms of artistic licence and the teabag allowed me to add a greeting in a very neat and effective way!
These cups have been papered and the saucers stamped with a range of small stamps. I have stuck to the flower theme as I wanted to replicate a real cup as much as possible. You could of course stamp all over the template instead of using papers. The pink cup is the Mother's Day one but I got a bit carried away with the rest of them!
For the lilac cup and saucer above, I have used a piece of lilac stripe paper from the Toddler Backing Papers set and the stamps are from a Tapestry stamp set called Aster Wreath. I have used a mixture of flowers and leaves to create a repeating pattern around the bottom and stamped over the paper on the rim of the cup to link them together.
The tag, teabag and saucer have been chalked in a mixture of lilac chalks to give a softer look. The teabag reads 'Sweetest Friend' which I thought worked well with the theme.
The teabag label sits outside the cup and the teabag slips down inside a slot cut in the back of the card. In that way, the message can be hidden until the recipient pulls the tag up to surprise them. Cut a slot just along the fold and slightly bigger than your teabag. You could just let it dangle down the back if you prefer.
Here is a blue themed one, using some spotty paper on the cup and a simple flower stamp from the Stampin Up Little Morsels stamp set. I liked this one even though I clearly messed up by stamping off the edge of the saucer. The tag has a paper flower and brad instead of a message this time.
Finally, an oriental themed cup stamped and heat embossed with gold embossing powder with some asian themed stamps I have and finished with some gold border stickers. The teabag has been stamped with a rather lovely Hero Arts Kanji Poem Stamp I picked up at a show a year ago.
These cards don't just have to be for Mother's Day of course, they would make equally good greetings for friends as all you have to do is change the wording on your teabag. Any more ideas for using these templates, I would love to hear them..please post below!
