Tree Box Template

I love making ornamental pieces and if you do too, then you'll like today's project, a cute mini tree, which you can either use as a box to present little gifts or as a decorative piece for your table or mantelpiece. This project uses the Tree Box Template, which is available on the Box Template page.

Decide which size of tree box you want to make, there are two sizes on the template. Print out your pieces onto your card or use the template to draw around onto your card. For the simple tree without layering, cut out the largest triangle pieces and the base. Fold along the dotted lines and glue along the tabs onto the base as shown above. If you want to use your tree as a box to store a gift, then leave one side unglued and seal with a card sealer or piece of tape.

Here is how it should look above.

Now you can make the base piece, folding on the lines to create a little bucket, which can then be glued to the base of the tree. You can also use this area to store a small gift, by gluing only one tab underneath and then sealing the bucket to the base with a card sealer or tape.

For the layered tree, you need to cut out all the triangular pieces. You can then assemble the tree by stacking each layer on top of the last, largest to smallest. Fix each piece with foam pads to allow each layer to stand out from the one below.

Here are layered and unlayered examples, using silver card, which I've run through an embossing folder. Make the mini one as a place setting for your Christmas table, or add some ribbon and hang from the Christmas tree. You can go to town with your stash, using ribbons, gems, peel off stickers and more to decorate your tree in your own style and to co-ordinate with your setting.

Thanks for joining us for today's project. Next up another card project!
